Canadian business travel to the U.S. remained resilient in the first half of the year

OTTAWA: Despite ongoing US-Canada political tensions, a new report indicates there has been no significant decrease in business travel from Canadian professionals to the United States. Data from SAP Concur shows that 79 percent of all official trips from Canada were to the U.S. In contrast, the number of leisure trips saw a 28.7 percent decline compared to the previous year. Experts suggest that stricter border inspections are a major factor contributing to the drop in leisure travel.

Experts also note that commercial ties with the United States are critical for Canadian companies. Many Canadian firms have headquarters or clients in the US, which explains why travel remains constant. Furthermore, companies believe that face-to-face meetings are more important than video calls. Consequently, businesses are now putting greater effort into preparing the necessary documents for employees traveling to the U.S.
