OTTAWA — The Canadian military police have launched an investigation into a recent incident involving Canadian soldiers giving a Nazi salute. The action comes after a video surfaced showing five soldiers performing the salute in 2023.
Canadian Army Commander, Lieutenant General Michael Wright, stated he was “very disturbed and disappointed” by the content of the video. He described the behavior as “completely unacceptable” and assured that swift action would be taken. The soldiers have been suspended while the disciplinary investigation is in progress.
Wright added that there is no place for hateful behavior and extremism within the Canadian military. He noted that such actions negatively impact the military’s ability to recruit the best individuals and maintain credibility.
