OTTAWA – Canada is reeling under a severe cold wave as Environment Canada issues widespread warnings for heavy snowfall and freezing rain across the country. The extreme weather has disrupted daily life and left thousands without power.
Significant snow accumulation is expected in parts of Southern Ontario. The weather agency reported that snow will continue through the evening in the Windsor region and parts of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
Areas including Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay, and Dryden are bracing for up to 20 cm of snow, making travel conditions hazardous.
Extreme Cold in the West and North
Environment Canada has issued extreme cold warnings for the northern regions of:
- Alberta
- British Columbia
- Yukon
Residents in these areas are advised to take precautions against frostbite and hypothermia as temperatures plummet to dangerous levels.
Blizzard Conditions and Power Outages in the East
Newfoundland and Labrador are facing the brunt of a winter storm. A winter storm warning is in effect for most of the province, with the eastern coast at risk of blizzard conditions.
