Canada, Australia and UK announced official recognition of Palestinian statehood

LONDON: The United Kingdom has officially recognized the state of Palestine. This decision comes after similar moves by Canada and Australia and was announced ahead of a UN General Assembly meeting.

In a video statement, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said, “To revive the hope of peace and a two-state solution, as Prime Minister of this great nation, I clearly state – the United Kingdom officially recognizes the state of Palestine.”

Canada had become the first G7 nation to recognize the Palestinian state, followed shortly by Australia. French President Emmanuel Macron had also announced his intention to recognize Palestine before these nations.

According to a statement from Starmer’s office, this is a historic step taken alongside close allies Canada and Australia as part of an international effort to support the path to peace and protect the equal rights of the Israeli and Palestinian people.
