Cambridge Food Bank expands food locker program

KITCHENER – The Cambridge Food Bank is set to expand its food locker program to two new locations. The food bank announced that the expansion is due to the successful operation of the program. This initiative is a way to help people facing challenges with mobility, transportation, or work schedules.

The Food Bank said their first locker was at the Preston Heights Community Centre at 350 Linden Dr., and was launched earlier this year. Two new locations are at the Allan Reuter Centre, at 507 King St. E., and the W.G. Johnson Centre, at 31 Kribs St.

Each household will be able to access a locker once per calendar month, receiving the same emergency food hamper available through the food bank’s in-person programs. The hampers are comprehensive, containing a variety of items including non-perishable food, frozen meat, milk, eggs, produce, bread, hygiene products, baby food, and diapers. The lockers are restocked every weekday as needed to ensure a consistent supply.

Dianne McLeod, CEO of the Cambridge Food Bank, highlighted the importance of the expansion, stating, “As food insecurity continues to grow, we are finding new and innovative ways to reach members of our community so no one is left behind.”
