TORONTO: Health Canada has announced the recall of Roquefort cheese due to potential Listeria contamination. The product recalled is Maison Gabriel Coulet Roquefort – La Cave cheese, sold in 100g packages at retail outlets across Ontario and Quebec.
To date, there have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of the cheese. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has stated that the food safety investigation is ongoing and may lead to the recall of other products.
Food contaminated with Listeria bacteria may not look spoiled or smell bad, but it can cause serious illness. Symptoms of illness after consuming food contaminated with Listeria include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, and severe headache.
Health Canada has advised individuals who have consumed the Roquefort cheese to monitor for these symptoms for the next 70 days.
