OTTAWA – A Canadian Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) has responded to a letter from a Maine State Senator that suggested Canada’s western provinces become the 51st U.S. state. Courtenay-Comox MLA Brennan Day confirmed that he received the letter and, after an investigation, found it to be legitimate. He noted that other elected officials across the country may have also received similar correspondence.
The letter, penned by Republican Senator Joseph E. Martin, raises concerns about Canadian sovereignty, according to Day. He stated that Martin ‘has way overstepped his boundaries here, speaking for the country’ as a state-level senator. Day added that he believes most Americans do not share Martin’s views.
