California: Apple is making moves to secure its position in the smart-home market. According to a Bloomberg report, the company is developing new products, including a tabletop robot that operates with the help of artificial intelligence (AI).
The tabletop robot reportedly resembles a Pixar lamp and features a 7-inch horizontal display mounted on a motorized arm. This arm can swivel, tilt, and extend in any direction. The report suggests that the robot will be able to follow users around a room based on commands it receives.
Apple’s goal with the tabletop robot’s design is to make the device more interactive and responsive than existing smart displays. The robot will use a camera to follow users. Another feature being developed is the ability to control the robot remotely using an iPhone, providing users with more convenience in managing the device.
The central component of this AI-powered device will be Siri, Apple’s intelligent personal assistant. The Bloomberg report notes that an improved version of Siri will support conversations with multiple people, remember past conversations, and provide suggestions in real-time.
