Annapolis county wildfire grows slightly overnight despite rain

HALIFAX, NS – Authorities in Nova Scotia have confirmed that a wildfire in Annapolis County remains out of control. The blaze has so far consumed 1,977 hectares (approximately 20 square kilometers) of forest, according to the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources.

The fire, which began near Godfrey Lake, has spread across Fance Road and West Dalhousie Road to the south end of Spectacle Lake. Officials stated that due to the timely intervention of firefighting teams, no major damages have been reported yet.

Rescue efforts are being carried out by 77 Nova Scotia DNR firefighters, 20 from Ontario, five from Prince Edward Island, and approximately 120 local firefighters. Authorities also reported that four CL-802 Skimmer aircraft, which had been deployed to control another fire in Digby County, are expected to return this morning. Around 100 homes in the area have been evacuated as a result of the fire.
