Halifax – A report prepared for the Nova Scotia Energy Board has confirmed that a cyber attack last March affected all of Nova Scotia Power’s customers.
The utility’s report states that approximately 277,000 customers were directly impacted, and it suggests that the number of affected individuals could be even higher, potentially including every user. The company has acknowledged that the attack affected customer billing and that it is working to fully restore services.
NS Power revealed that the cyber attack occurred on or after March 19 but was not discovered until April 25, when the company found that some of its system applications were not functioning. Personal information of customers was stolen during the attack, and some of the stolen data was later found to have been published on the dark web.
The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada initiated an investigation into the incident on May 28.
