Alberta Leads Canada in Job Growth, Says Statistics Canada

Edmonton: Alberta recorded the largest job increase across Canada in November of this year, according to Statistics Canada. The province created approximately 29,000 new jobs last month, contributing to over half of the country’s total employment gain.

This surge led to a significant drop in the provincial unemployment rate, which fell to 6.5 per cent from 7.8 per cent in October. This figure now matches the national average. Authorities further noted that Alberta has added more than 100,000 jobs over the past year.

Economic Outlook and Concerns

While this growth suggests that Alberta’s economy is on a strong footing, economic experts remain concerned about whether this increase will be permanent.

Other encouraging national data includes the decrease in the youth unemployment rate to 12.8 per cent.

Despite the falling unemployment rate, the job market still remains a ‘favourable environment for employers’. This is because many organizations are seeing a high number of applicants for job openings.

Alberta authorities remain optimistic, with expectations that the job growth trend will continue into 2026.
