Air Canada Flight Attendants Overwhelmingly Reject Proposed Contract

OTTAWA: Air Canada flight attendants have voted against the airline’s latest offer, which included a wage increase, according to their union. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) announced that 99.1% of members who participated in the vote rejected the new proposal. Union participation in the vote was 99.4%.

The temporary agreement offered a 12% wage increase for junior flight attendants and an 8% increase for senior members this year, with smaller increases in the following years.

Despite the rejection, a strike or lockout is not expected, and flights will continue as scheduled. Both parties had previously agreed that if the new offer was voted down, industrial action would not be initiated. This follows a three-day strike by flight attendants on August 19, which had disrupted summer travel plans for thousands of passengers and was ended with the help of a federal mediator.
