OTTAWA: Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has stated that the 35% additional tariff imposed by US President Donald Trump on Canadian products is unjustified. Poilievre’s reaction came via the X platform (formerly Twitter). He added that his party continues to hope for a deal that would end all tariffs.
“That means zero tariffs on our steel, aluminum, softwood, autos, energy, agriculture, and everything else,” Poilievre wrote in his X post. “That is the deal Canada had before and the Prime Minister should accept nothing short of that.”
Meanwhile, Ontario Premier Doug Ford also called for retaliatory tariffs in response to Trump’s increased duties. Ford demanded a 50% retaliatory tariff against the 35% additional tariff imposed by Trump.
Doug Ford emphasized that Canada should not yield to Trump’s threats and must stand firm. He also wrote on X that Canada should not accept anything less than a fair deal.
