OTTAWA: Health Canada has issued a nationwide recall for a popular hair styling mousse by renowned cosmetics brand Schwarzkopf due to a packaging defect that could cause the can to leak and burst under pressure, posing potential risks of injury and property damage.
The warning applies to ‘Schwarzkopf Professional Osis Grip Mousse’ (200 ml / 6.76 fl oz). According to officials, over 90,000 units of the affected product were sold across Canada between November 2023 and June 2026. Manufactured in Hungary, the product was distributed through salons and various retail channels nationwide.
Health Canada stated that packaging flaws in the aerosol cans allow the contents to leak while pressurized. The resulting buildup of pressure creates a risk of the container bursting unexpectedly, which could cause physical harm or damage to surrounding property.
As of September 18, 2026, the manufacturer had received one report of an incident linked to the packaging defect in Canada, though no injuries have been confirmed to date.
The recall covers 25 specific batch codes. Regulatory authorities are urging consumers to stop using the product immediately and return it to the point of purchase for a full refund.
This Canadian recall follows a similar safety alert issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on August 11, which pulled the same product lines off store shelves across several American states.
