Toronto: Canadian International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu will arrive in Mumbai today (September 18, 2026) for a two-day official visit. His visit aims to advance critical negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between India and Canada. Both nations are aiming to strengthen India-Canada trade and investment ties, accelerate the fourth round of CEPA talks, and finalize the trade agreement by the end of 2026.
Canada targets doubling its bilateral trade with India to 70 billion Canadian dollars annually by 2030. During his stay in Mumbai, Sidhu will meet with Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, senior officials, and top industry leaders to discuss key bilateral trade issues.
Following his two-day visit to Mumbai, he will head to the Philippines to attend the ASEAN Ministerial talks in Manila. Canada is also actively seeking to bolster commercial ties with Thailand, Qatar, the Mercosur trade bloc, and Turkey.
The minister noted that Canada’s exports outside the United States grew by 17 percent (33 billion Canadian dollars) over the past year, with more than 20 agreements signed across five continents.
