TORONTO — A 17-year-old boy was killed following a daytime shooting in a residential area of North York, prompting a homicide investigation and a search for the suspect, Toronto Police reported.
The victim has been identified as Cashie Auguste, a resident of Toronto.
According to police, emergency services were called to the scene near Jane Street and Finch Avenue West at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Monday after reports of gunfire. Responding officers located Auguste suffering from severe gunshot wounds. First responders administered emergency life-saving measures before he was rushed to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Ongoing Investigation
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and the Toronto Police Homicide Unit has taken charge of the case.
Investigators recovered a skateboard from the scene and are currently analyzing it to determine whether it belonged to the victim or the perpetrator.
No suspect description has been released yet. Authorities are reviewing surveillance camera footage and dashcam recordings from the vicinity to reconstruct the sequence of events and identify potential suspects.
Police have urged anyone with information, surveillance footage, or dashcam video from the area at the time of the incident to contact homicide investigators or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
This incident marks Toronto’s 24th homicide of the year.
