OTTAWA- Hundreds of residents were evacuated from the area following a propane tanker rollover and subsequent gas leak on the roadside in Greely, south Ottawa. The accident occurred on Tuesday night around 7:00 PM near Parkway Road and Cedar Lane. Paramedics confirmed that no injuries were reported.
Following the crash, as emergency personnel worked to contain the leak, the fire department instructed residents of over 60 homes within an 800-metre radius of the crash site to evacuate immediately. By Wednesday at around 3:20 AM, the leak was mitigated and the truck was set back on its wheels, allowing the evacuation radius to be reduced to 300 metres.
Ottawa police later confirmed on Wednesday morning that the truck had been towed away and residents could safely return home. A temporary reception centre was set up for evacuated locals at the Greely Community Centre on Meadow Drive.
