Air quality warnings issued in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, as wildfire smoke lingers

Winnipeg: Air quality warnings remain in effect for parts of Saskatchewan and Manitoba as wildfire smoke continues to linger over the region. Environment Canada has reported that air pollution has worsened in Manitoba and Saskatchewan due to wildfire smoke. As of Thursday, 118 wildfires are actively burning across Manitoba, and 48 wildfires are raging in Saskatchewan.

The weather agency stated that the residents of Buffalo Narrows community in northwestern Saskatchewan are experiencing the worst conditions. The agency reported that the Air Quality Health Index there would be at a very high risk level on Friday and Saturday. The city of Prince Albert in Saskatchewan has also been covered by wildfire smoke. In northwestern Manitoba, the city of Flin Flon is also under an advisory, according to Environment Canada, which predicts that the Air Quality Health Index will drop from high risk to moderate risk by Saturday.

Fine particulate matter contained in wildfire smoke can cause severe health problems. Health officials have advised the public to limit or avoid outdoor activities.
