Peel Regional Police are investigating a deadly shooting in Brampton that claimed the lives of two individuals late Friday night. Officers were called to the area of Rutherford Road and Waybridge Trail, north of Williams Parkway, at approximately 10:30 p.m. following reports of multiple gunshots.
Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. According to witness accounts, one victim was found on a basketball court behind St. Joachim Elementary School, while the second victim was located in the front driveway of a residence on Waybridge Trail. Despite the efforts of paramedics, both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators have confirmed that one person is currently in police custody in connection with the incident. However, officials have not yet released the identity of the suspect or provided details regarding potential charges. The relationship between the victims and the suspect, as well as the motive behind the double homicide, remains under active investigation.
The area surrounding the elementary school and the residential driveway remained cordoned off for several hours as forensic teams searched for evidence. Police are urging anyone with dashcam footage or home security video from the neighborhood to come forward as they work to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy.
