Scotiabank Announces Further Layoffs in Efficiency Drive

OTTAWA — The Bank of Nova Scotia (Scotiabank) is laying off employees as part of a strategic move aimed at enhancing efficiency. The bank has not disclosed the exact number of employees affected by the current round of job cuts.

The move comes as the bank continues to streamline operations. Scotiabank had previously reduced its global workforce by approximately 2,700 employees in 2023.

In a statement, bank spokesperson Claire Dawson confirmed the ongoing strategic focus, saying the bank “will continue to prioritize and invest in areas that meet customer needs and provide sustainable growth.” The layoffs are understood to be part of an effort to optimize resources and redirect investments into high-growth, customer-facing sectors.
