Jetstar denies fault as passengers cry foul over scales

WELLINGTON: Passengers at Wellington Airport have alleged that Jetstar Airways’ luggage scales are inaccurate. The complaints arose after travelers who had weighed their bags at the main terminal, finding them to be within the 7kg limit, were later told their bags were overweight when re-weighed on Jetstar’s portable scales at the departure gate.

According to the passengers, they were subsequently asked to pay an additional fee of $65, which led to their suspicion that the airline’s scales were incorrect.

In response, Jetstar has denied the allegations. The company stated that all its baggage scales are calibrated annually and are working accurately. However, one disgruntled passenger has filed a formal complaint with both the Commerce Commission and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
