43 New Wildfires in Alberta; Most Under Control

EDMONTON: Alberta Wildfire has reported that over forty new wildfires started in the province over the weekend, with most of them now extinguished. Derrick Forsythe of Alberta Wildfire stated that 43 new wildfires were detected between August 2 and August 5. The majority of these fires were in the Lac La Biche and Slave Lake areas.

The agency indicates that twenty of these fires were caused by lightning, while four were human-caused. Out of the 43 fires, three are still considered out of control, seven are under control, and 32 have been extinguished. Currently, 64 wildfires are burning across the province’s forest protection area, with 16 of them reported as out of control. Meanwhile, warnings remain in effect for the Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, and Slave Lake forest areas, as well as parts of the Lac La Biche forest area.
