Montreal: Montreal has officially commenced its fifth major snow removal operation of the season as heavy snowfall continues to blanket the city. Authorities announced that the first fleet of snow-loading trucks began operations at 7:00 PM on Tuesday. To manage the cleanup across nearly 11,000 kilometers of city streets and sidewalks, a massive force of approximately 3,000 workers and 2,500 specialized vehicles has been deployed.
While the city had previously warned of potential delays in snow removal due to labor shortages, officials reversed that decision on Monday evening. The rapid accumulation of snow exceeded initial forecasts, making an immediate large-scale response necessary. To ensure the cleanup proceeds quickly and safely, residents are urged to strictly follow parking regulations and stay informed through updates from their local boroughs.
The winter weather is expected to remain intense throughout the week. Environment Canada reported that light snow began Tuesday afternoon as temperatures dropped to -11°C. While the snowfall is expected to taper off overnight, the mercury is forecasted to plummet further to -18°C. While the extreme cold will persist through Wednesday and Thursday, the weather agency anticipates clearer skies by Saturday and a slight rise in temperature by Sunday.
