EDMONTON – A total of 140 people have filed their nomination papers for the positions of Mayor, City Council, and School Board Trustee, Edmonton Elections has reported. Thirteen candidates are vying for the mayor’s seat, and 81 are competing for the 12 other City Council positions. Approximately 50 people have submitted nomination papers for the trustee positions.
Monday was the last day for filing nomination papers. Election day is October 20, with advance voting scheduled to take place from October 7 to 11.
Filing nomination papers is the final step to becoming an official candidate. Nominated candidates have until noon on Tuesday to withdraw their applications. City authorities announced that special ballot packages will soon be sent to those who cannot vote in person. The option to receive special ballots directly from the Edmonton Elections office is also available.
